Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific Airways banned a couple for harassing a mainland Chinese woman who refused to put up her reclined seat on a flight from Hong Kong to London. The woman, identified as Jin Yuelin, posted a video on Xiaohongshu showing the incident. The couple used discriminatory language towards her and kicked her seat. Despite complaints, the flight attendant asked the woman to compromise and did not allow her to switch seats. Surrounding passengers intervened and the woman was eventually offered a new seat in premium economy. Cathay Pacific issued a statement apologizing for the incident and banned the couple from future flights. The woman posted a follow-up video thanking those who supported her and emphasized that the incident was isolated and should not be overgeneralized. Hong Kong, which was returned to China in 1997, has seen growing Chinese influence in recent years.
