The CEO of Taiwan-based Gold Apollo has been released after being questioned regarding the deadly explosions in Lebanon that killed 37 and wounded thousands. The components used in the explosive devices were not made in Taiwan, according to Taiwan’s economy minister, who stated they were low-end integrated circuits and batteries. The devices were traced back to Budapest-based company BAC, which has a license to use Gold Apollo’s brand.
Security sources have suggested that Israel may be responsible for the attacks, but Israel has not made any direct comments. Taiwan’s foreign minister has stated that the country is investigating any potential links between its tech supply chains and the explosive devices. Gold Apollo’s president and founder, Hsu Ching-kuang, was questioned by prosecutors but later released.
Another individual, Teresa Wu, who is associated with a company called Apollo System, was also questioned by prosecutors. The prosecutor’s office in Taipei has conducted searches of the firms’ locations to determine any possible involvement in the attacks. Iran-aligned Hezbollah has vowed to retaliate against Israel, with tensions escalating since the conflict in Gaza erupted last October.
Taiwanese authorities are cooperating with international agencies to ensure the safety of the country and its people. The investigation is ongoing to determine the origins of the explosive devices used in the attacks in Lebanon and any involvement of Taiwanese companies in the production or supply of these devices.
