Trump focuses on culture war issues, aims to rally base at Moms for Liberty event • Georgia Recorder

Former President Donald Trump addressed a conservative parental rights group, Moms for Liberty, touching on various issues such as immigration, Afghanistan withdrawal, his false claims about the 2020 election, and his support for parental rights. He also criticized Democratic nominee Kamala Harris and expressed his opposition to transgender students identifying in classrooms. Trump emphasized the importance of parental rights in education and vowed to protect them if elected.

Moms for Liberty, with ties to the far-right Project 2025 playbook, has strong GOP connections and has been involved in local school board elections. Despite some controversies surrounding the group’s co-founder and local chapters, they continue to push against mask mandates, book bans, and discussions on structural racism in classrooms.

Trump’s appearance at the conference marks his second time attending a Moms for Liberty event. While he has not made parental rights a central theme in his reelection campaign, he has focused on immigration issues and mass deportations. The group, with over 130,000 members across 48 states, has received support from the Heritage Foundation and has been involved in conservative education policy discussions.

As the 2022 midterm elections approach, Moms for Liberty is launching a $3 million campaign in battleground states to influence local school board elections. The group has also filed lawsuits against new Title IX regulations from the Biden administration, which provide protections for transgender students. Despite some setbacks and controversies, Moms for Liberty remains a prominent voice on the far right advocating for parental rights and conservative education policies.
