Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskiy has offered condolences following a Russian strike on Kharkiv, where at least 28 people were injured and a 14-year-old girl named Sofia was killed. Zelenskiy described the attack as “horrific” and “cowardly”, calling for accountability from Russia. He also urged for decisions to be made by powerful countries to prevent further attacks.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has reported over 4,000 cases of Russian chemical agents being used on its frontline since the start of the invasion in February 2022. The US Department of State confirmed the use of chloropicrin and aerosol grenades filled with tear gas by Russian forces, which violates the Chemical Weapons Convention.
In recent attacks, five people were killed and 46 injured in a Ukrainian attack on the Russian city of Belgorod, with 37 people hospitalized. Earlier, seven people died in a Russian bomb attack on Kharkiv, including a 14-year-old girl. Zelenskiy has fired the head of Ukraine’s air force following a jet crash that killed the pilot.
Ukraine has also called on Mongolia to arrest Vladimir Putin during his upcoming visit, citing an ICC warrant for his arrest over the deportation of Ukrainian children. Ukrainian forces have advanced in Russia’s Kursk region. The situation remains tense with both sides experiencing deadly attacks on civilians.
