Arrest made after Jewish students at University of Pittsburgh assaulted with a bottle

A group of Jewish students at the University of Pittsburgh was attacked by an individual wielding a bottle on Friday evening. The suspect, who had no known affiliation to the school, was immediately arrested. Two students were treated at the scene and support was offered to students by contacting the Hillel University Center and the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh. The university stated that acts of violence and antisemitism will not be tolerated. The incident took place near the Cathedral of Learning on the main campus, and it was not believed to be connected to a separate violent incident reported at the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh. In that incident, a man was shot in the leg and taken to the hospital in stable condition. The fall semester had just started at the University of Pittsburgh. The police investigation is ongoing and local and federal partners are assisting in the efforts to address the situation. The university reassured the community that there was no ongoing threat, but acknowledged that incidents like this could be unsettling.
