Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz are set to be interviewed by CNN’s Dana Bash on their two-day bus tour through South Georgia. This joint sit-down interview will air on CNN at 9 p.m. Thursday, shortly after Harris concludes a rally in Savannah. Harris has been under pressure to participate in an in-depth interview, which she has promised to do before the end of the month. Republicans have criticized her lack of formal news conferences or interviews, contrasting it with former President Donald Trump’s frequent media appearances.
The Georgia tour by Harris and Walz is reminiscent of former President Bill Clinton’s 1992 bus tour in Georgia, featuring a caravan of prominent Democratic figures. Georgia lawmakers are currently studying the issue of transgender athletes competing in amateur women’s sports, with Lt. Gov. Burt Jones expressing a desire to revisit the ban imposed by the Georgia High School Association.
In North Carolina, the race is tightening, with the Cook Political Report declaring it a toss-up and Vice President Kamala Harris closing the gap with former President Donald Trump. Savannah Mayor Van Johnson has voiced criticism of incumbent Chatham district attorney Shalena Cook Jones and hinted at a possible endorsement for her Republican opponent Andre Pretorius. State Sen. Brandon Beach, R-Alpharetta, has announced his resignation from the Development Authority of Fulton County.
Politically Georgia listeners can hear from state Rep. Debbie Buckner and state Rep. Ruwa Romman on the Harris-Walz campaign and the uncommitted movement during the Democratic National Convention. Lastly, Hall County school officials have dedicated the new Sandra Dunagan Deal Elementary School in honor of the former Georgia first lady, who passed away in 2022. Today’s birthdays are also acknowledged in the newsletter.
