ISIL Takes Credit for Stabbing Attack in Solingen, Germany | Crime Report

Authorities in western Germany are still searching for the perpetrator of a knife attack that left three people dead and eight others wounded in Solingen. The Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that the perpetrator was targeting Christians. The attack occurred during a celebration for Solingen’s 650th anniversary, with one woman and two men among the victims.

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the attack, following information provided by witnesses who heard him discussing intentions that aligned with the attack. Police have also conducted raids on a home for asylum seekers in the city. While terrorism has not been ruled out, authorities are still working to determine a motive.

Germany’s Minister of the Interior and Community visited Solingen to pledge support for the city and its residents, emphasizing the need for unity in the face of such a tragic event. The country’s top security official has not classified the attack as terrorism despite ISIS’s claim of responsibility.

The cancellation of the remaining events at the Festival of Diversity, which was a part of Solingen’s anniversary celebrations, underscores the somber mood in the city following the attack. The community has come together to offer support, with churches opening their doors for prayer and emergency pastoral care, and an online portal set up for witnesses to provide information.

As the investigation continues and authorities work to identify the perpetrator, the city remains in shock and mourning. The attack has highlighted the need for vigilance and solidarity in the face of violence.
