However, as the night progressed, it became clear that Beyoncé would not be appearing at the convention. The Hollywood Reporter cited a representative for Beyoncé who confirmed she was not scheduled to attend. In the end, a recording of Beyoncé’s song “Freedom” was used to welcome Harris to the stage.
While Beyoncé has not officially endorsed Harris or the Democratic presidential nominee, she has supported Democratic candidates in the past. Beyoncé and Jay-Z campaigned for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Beyoncé performed at Barack Obama’s inaugural ball in 2009.
Despite the disappointment of Beyoncé not appearing at the convention, her song “Freedom” has been a prominent track on Harris’s campaign trail playlist, reflecting a focus on empowering Black female artists.
