Young Democrats in Georgia are determined to make an impact in the 2024 election, according to the Georgia Recorder.

The Democratic National Convention, held at the Hyatt Regency Chicago hotel, saw a surge of youthful energy among the delegates. 22-year-old Parker Short, president of the Young Democrats of Georgia, showcased this energy by helping to fix a sagging banner. Other young delegates like Avi Dhyani and Edward Bohannon also expressed enthusiasm for being at the convention and their involvement in politics.

Dhyani, an 18-year-old delegate from Georgia, got involved in politics after reading about former President Donald Trump’s attacks on immigrants. Bohannon, a young delegate from Yale University, emphasized the importance of youth turnout in the upcoming election.

Vice presidential candidate Tim Walz emphasized the significance of the youth vote in deciding the election, urging young people to turn out and vote. Georgia political science professor Charles Bullock also stressed the importance of converting and turning out the youth vote in the state.

A Morning Consult poll found that 50% of 18-29-year-olds nationwide prefer Vice President Kamala Harris, while 40% prefer Trump. However, in Georgia, a New York Times/Siena poll showed Harris with only a one-point lead among the youngest voters. Overall, Trump leads among older Georgians in the poll.

The presence of young delegates and their enthusiasm at the DNC highlighted the vital role that the youth vote will play in the upcoming election, especially in the state of Georgia.
