Ukraine launches massive drone attack on Moscow in one of the largest ever recorded | Russia-Ukraine conflict updates

Ukraine launched a major drone attack on Moscow, which the Russian Ministry of Defence stated was one of the largest attempts to target the Russian capital. The attack involved the shooting down of 11 drones over Moscow and its surrounding region. No damage or casualties were reported, with temporary airport restrictions at Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky airports lifted later in the day. Russian forces were engaged in a broader conflict, with drone attacks also reported in regions such as Bryansk, Belgorod, Kaluga, and Kursk.

The drone assault on Moscow comes as Ukraine continues its incursion into Russia’s Kursk region, with hundreds of prisoners taken and tens of thousands of civilians forced to evacuate. Ukraine now claims control of a significant territory in Kursk, including 93 settlements. Ukrainian forces also struck an S-300 antiaircraft missile system in Russia’s Rostov region and targeted an oil storage facility, causing a massive fire that Russian firefighters were still battling.

Meanwhile, Russian forces were advancing in eastern Ukraine, aiming to capture the entire Donetsk region. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev stated that there would be no negotiations with Ukraine until the enemy is completely defeated. The conflict has raised questions about Ukraine’s strategic approach, with successful targeting of Russia’s industrial capacity to wage war. Despite the ongoing military operations, it remains to be seen whether the drone attacks on Moscow signal a change in Ukraine’s tactics or are a one-off operation.
