Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is set to make a campaign speech in Phoenix on Friday to address “his path forward” as the 2024 election approaches. His running mate, Nicole Shanahan, recently suggested that the campaign may have to choose between staying in the race and risking a Harris-Walz presidency or dropping out to support Donald Trump. Kennedy’s potential collaboration with Trump has been a topic of discussion, with Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance, confirming that there has been communication between the campaigns. Vance emphasized that Kennedy’s policies align more with the current Republican Party than the Democratic Party under Harris. However, Trump has not promised a Cabinet position in exchange for Kennedy’s endorsement.
Kennedy’s campaign has faced challenges recently, including financial difficulties and controversies, such as groping allegations and attempts to gain ballot access in all 50 states. His standing in public polling has also declined, and he was disqualified from the ballot in New York state due to a residency issue. Despite these obstacles, Kennedy’s campaign continues, and he remains a notable figure in the 2024 presidential race.
