National Democratic Leaders at DNC Give Attention to Georgia Delegation

The Democratic National Convention saw a show of support for Georgia Democrats from prominent party figures on the second day of the event. Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer made appearances at the Georgia delegation breakfast, with Whitmer taking a swipe at Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp. Whitmer emphasized the importance of Georgia and Michigan in the upcoming election, as both states are key swing states. A New York Times/Sienna College poll showed a tight race in Georgia between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. The recent shift in Georgia from red to purple has been credited to young and diverse voters in urban areas.
Both Pritzker and Whitmer highlighted the importance of engaging voters in every part of the state, with Whitmer citing Michigan as a model for Georgia. However, Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz cautioned against following in Florida’s footsteps, where the state has shifted towards being a Republican stronghold. Schultz warned about the threat to civil rights and other progressive values from right-wing extremists and their agenda.
Overall, the show of support for Georgia Democrats at the convention highlighted the significance of the state in the upcoming election and the importance of mobilizing voters to secure a Democratic victory. The speeches from Pritzker, Whitmer, and Schultz emphasized the need for unity and engagement to protect and advance progressive values in Georgia and across the country.
