Jonathan Bloomer, Morgan Stanley International Chairman, and Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo are among those missing from the Bayesian, a luxury yacht that capsized near Sicily’s Palermo during a violent storm. The ship’s cook has been confirmed dead, and there are concerns that others may be trapped inside the cabins. Rescue operations are ongoing but have been challenging due to the storm’s timing. Divers, including those from Italy’s national fire department and coast guard, are using a remotely-operated underwater vehicle to aid in the search. Survivors have been leaving the Coast Guard Headquarters near Palermo. The Bayesian, owned by a firm linked to Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, was built in 2008 and could accommodate 12 guests and a crew of up to 10. Lynch, previously described as “Britain’s Bill Gates,” was acquitted of fraud charges related to the sale of his software company Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard. The yacht’s nearly 250-foot mast is recognized as the tallest aluminum sailing mast globally, according to CharterWorld Luxury Yacht Charters. The situation remains uncertain as rescue efforts continue for those still missing from the tragedy.
