Ukraine strikes third bridge in Kursk
Ukraine has hit and damaged a third bridge over the River Seym, near Karyzh in the Kursk region of Russia. The extent of the damage is unclear, but it could hinder Russia’s ability to bring crucial equipment across the river. The ongoing conflict has led to various developments, including Chinese Premier Li Qiang visiting Russia and Belarus, and Ukraine repelling a drone attack by Russia. Ukrainian President Zelenskiy stated that the incursion into the Kursk region aims to create a buffer zone to prevent further attacks by Moscow. Ukraine has also captured over 150 Russian prisoners of war in the operation. The Institute for the Study of War has observed Ukraine’s advances in Kursk, while Russian forces have taken control of a village in Ukraine’s Donetsk region. Russia has denied reports of talks with Ukraine to halt strikes on energy and power targets, and President Putin visited Azerbaijan amidst the conflict. The situation in the region remains tense as the conflict between Ukraine and Russia continues to escalate.
