Two White House staffers are expected to leave the Biden administration to join Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign in the final 80 days leading up to Election Day. Deputy communications director Herbie Ziskend will take on an elevated role to manage messaging around President Biden’s legacy as he nears the end of his term. Principal deputy communications director Kristen Orthman will also be departing to join the Harris campaign in a planning role coordinating across departments. Additionally, communications advisor Kate Berner will serve as a senior advisor to Governor Tim Walz’s team alongside her role in the Harris campaign. White House counsel spokesman Ian Sams will move to the campaign as a senior spokesperson.
The Harris campaign is expected to announce more new staff roles soon. Ziskend, who has previously worked with Biden and Harris, will work closely with White House communications director Ben LaBolt on executing the president’s agenda in the final months of his term. LaBolt praised Ziskend as a trusted Biden aide and Orthman as a valuable team member. These staff changes indicate a shift in focus within the Biden administration as the campaign intensifies leading up to the election.
