Reports claim that Ukraine is responsible for sabotaging the Nord Stream pipeline

A recent report by the Wall Street Journal alleges that Ukraine was behind a plan to sabotage the Nord Stream pipeline carrying Russian gas to Germany in May 2022. According to the report, a small Ukrainian crew disguised as a pleasure boat cruise carried out the operation on the Baltic Sea, costing around $300,000. The plan was allegedly approved by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but the US intelligence agency CIA intervened and asked him to halt it. Despite the order to stop, the operation proceeded under the command of Valeriy Zaluzhniy.

While portions of the sources’ accounts were corroborated by a German investigation, German and Polish authorities doubt Ukraine’s involvement and suspect it may have been a “false flag” operation by Russia. Polish authorities attempted to arrest a suspect, Volodymyr Z, near Warsaw in July, but he had already returned to Ukraine. Another married couple, Svitlana and Yevhen Uspenska, who run a diving school, were also named as suspects but denied involvement due to their diving limitations.

The report comes after German prosecutors issued the first arrest warrant in their investigation into the Nord Stream attack, identifying Volodymyr Z as the suspect. However, it was revealed that the Polish authorities failed to stop him at the border because the German authorities did not enter his name in the wanted database. The article has raised questions about the true perpetrators behind the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipeline.
