The 33-year-old, who has been a lifelong fan of the Tractor Boys, already serves as the shirt sponsor for both the men’s and women’s teams since 2021. Through his company Gamechanger 20 Ltd, Sheeran acquired a 1.4% stake in the club, which will not grant him voting rights or a seat on the board.
Expressing his excitement for the new venture, Sheeran stated that owning a portion of the club he loves is a dream come true. He emphasized his deep connection to Suffolk and Ipswich, stressing the importance of giving back to the community that has always made him feel at home. As part of the deal, Sheeran will have access to an executive box at Portman Road, which he plans to customize ahead of the 2024-25 season.
Sheeran’s investment in Ipswich Town follows a trend of celebrities getting involved in lesser-known football teams, with names like Delia Smith and Elton John having longstanding connections to clubs like Norwich City and Watford FC, respectively. The move comes as Ipswich Town makes its return to the Premier League after nearly two decades, with the support of Sheeran expected to further raise the club’s profile on a global scale.
Club chair Mark Ashton expressed gratitude for Sheeran’s support, praising the musician for his dedication to the team and the exposure he has brought to Ipswich Town.
