Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz made his first solo campaign appearance as the Democratic vice presidential candidate in Los Angeles. Speaking to a union audience, he emphasized worker-friendly policies that would be prioritized by the Democratic ticket led by Vice President Kamala Harris. Walz, a former public school teacher and union member, praised Harris for her efforts to support working families and eliminate barriers to organizing.
As Governor of Minnesota, Walz highlighted his own initiatives to support workers, including making it easier to form unions and strengthening worker protections. He also criticized the GOP ticket, specifically Donald Trump and Vice Presidential nominee Sen. J.D. Vance, for their anti-union stance and support for policies that would harm working people.
Walz urged the union audience to mobilize and help turn out Democratic voters in the upcoming election, emphasizing the importance of their involvement in securing a victory. He also addressed a broader audience, advocating for reproductive rights and criticizing restrictions on book bans and tax cuts for the wealthy supported by Trump.
Regarding his military service record, which has been questioned by Republicans, Walz defended his 24 years of service in the National Guard and emphasized his pride in serving his country. He closed his speech with a call for unity and solidarity, leading the crowd in a chant of “When we fight, we win.” Walz’s appearance underscored the Democratic ticket’s commitment to supporting workers and prioritizing policies that benefit working families.
