In a developing story, more than 100 Palestinians were killed and dozens wounded in an Israeli strike on a Gaza school sheltering displaced people, according to officials in Gaza. The Gaza Government Media Office described the attack as a “horrific massacre” that happened during Fajr prayers, resulting in a rapid increase in casualties. Gaza’s civil defence agency reported that three Israeli rockets hit the school in the al-Daraj district, with bodies catching fire.
Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Amman, Jordan, stated that the bodies of those killed and injured were taken to Gaza’s Baptist Hospital. This attack on the al-Tabin school is the fourth incident of its kind to occur in the last week, with horrific images showing numerous bodies on the ground.
The Israeli army claimed that the strike targeted a Hamas hideout and command center, as well as a shelter for Gaza City residents. However, they provided no evidence to support these claims. Previous incidents targeting schools also lacked evidence to support the Israeli army’s assertions.
The images from the school strike raise doubts about the precision of the weaponry used, as the extent of injuries and building damage suggest otherwise. The situation is still developing, and more information is expected to come to light.
