Desmond Burks, the man previously arrested for fatally punching a driver in a road rage incident, has now been charged with the murder of Detroit neurosurgeon Dr. Devon Hoover. Hoover’s body was found in his home last year, shot multiple times in the head. The community was shocked by the murder, and many expressed grief and frustration as months went by with no arrests.
Prosecutors revealed that Burks and Hoover had an “intimate relationship,” with Burks charging the doctor for sexual services. Hoover was found dead in a blood-soaked carpet with missing belongings, including his cellphone and designer watches. Fraudulent transactions were made from Hoover’s bank accounts immediately after his death.
Evidence, including text messages, surveillance video, and the discovery of Hoover’s belongings in residences connected to Burks, led to the charges against him. Burks was already in jail for a separate murder charge in the death of Reda Saleh, who died after being punched by Burks during a verbal altercation following a car accident.
While Burks is being held on a $1 million bond, a motive for Hoover’s murder remains unclear. Authorities worked tirelessly to gather evidence and information from reluctant witnesses leading to Burks’ charges in both cases. Police Chief James White expressed condolences to Hoover’s family and highlighted the tragedy that has left a void in the community.
