Georgians will have a choice between at least three presidential candidates this November, including candidates from third parties. However, the Democratic Party of Georgia is attempting to block these third-party candidates, including socialist candidate Claudia De la Cruz, from appearing on the ballot. Despite collecting more than double the required signatures to secure a spot on the ballot, challenges have been raised against these candidates by state Democrats.
The candidates facing challenges include De la Cruz, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West, and Jill Stein of the Green Party. The Democrats are alleging flaws with signatures and application processes, claiming that the candidates did not follow the state’s election laws. However, the third-party candidates are confident in their cases, with supporters expressing a commitment to continue organizing and advocating for alternatives to the two major parties.
Recent polls suggest that Vice President Kamala Harris may have a better chance of winning swing states like Georgia than President Joe Biden, with third-party candidates potentially taking away more votes from Donald Trump. The third-party candidates are scheduled to attend hearings with the Georgia Office of State Administrative Hearings to address the challenges brought against them. Supporters are adamant about the need for choices beyond the traditional two-party system, regardless of the outcome of the ballot access challenges.
