The war in Ukraine continues as the conflict enters its 896th day with ongoing fighting in various regions. In Russia’s Kursk region, 1,000 Ukrainian troops launched a cross-border raid supported by tanks and armoured vehicles, leading to fierce battles. Russia’s Ministry of Defence stated that its troops were using airstrikes, rockets, and artillery fire to combat the Ukrainian forces. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksyy condemned Russia’s aggression, while casualties were reported on both sides, including a schoolyard bombing in Ukraine’s Sumy region.

In addition to the fighting, political developments included a statement by Ukraine’s chief of staff that Moscow may attend a peace summit but it should not be seen as the start of negotiations with Russia. Ukraine also expressed regret over Niger’s decision to sever ties with Kyiv. Meanwhile, court cases in both Russia and Ukraine resulted in Ukrainian citizens being sentenced to lengthy prison terms for alleged involvement in terrorist activities and espionage.

On the weapons front, Ukraine showcased a new robot dog named “BAD One” that could potentially be used for dangerous missions on the front line. The situation remains tense in Ukraine, with casualties and evacuations increasing as the conflict persists. International efforts to bring about peace and negotiations continue, but the violent clashes and military actions show no sign of abating.
