In the uneven bars final at the Tokyo Olympics, Suni Lee won a bronze medal, with Algeria’s Kaylia Nemour taking gold and Qiu Qiyuan of China winning silver. Lee’s strategic routine earned her a score of 14.800, helping her defend her podium finish from the previous Olympics. Lee, who had specific goals for Paris including a team gold, all-around podium finish, a bars medal, and a gold on the balance beam, has so far achieved all of her targets except for the beam. She became a six-time Olympic medalist by winning medals in various events at the Tokyo Olympics. Nemour, representing Algeria but born and raised in France, won the gold medal in the bars final, the first for her country and for an African nation in gymnastics. She switched her nationality due to a dispute with the French gymnastics federation. Despite Derwael finishing fourth and unable to defend her title, Lee and Biles will compete for a beam medal on the final day of gymnastics in Paris. Nemour’s high score could have helped the struggling French team had she still been representing them. Lee, who has persevered through illness to reach the Olympics and achieve success, has impressed with her performances at the games.
