British writer and poet Simon Armitage recently shared his thoughts on his favorite sandwich, words he dislikes, birds, and more in a recent interview. When it comes to sandwiches, he would opt for a toasted one with Shropshire Red cheese and jalapeƱo peppers. Armitage expressed his disdain for the phrase “bus replacement service” and his love for all birds, including the often-maligned seagulls. He recounted a story about cuckoos bringing spring to his village, which he finds endearing.
Armitage also shared some pop culture opinions, stating that abstract art is rubbish. He revealed that he is currently hooked on the TV series House of the Dragon and has a penchant for reruns of The Sopranos. The poet discussed a book by Ted Hughes that he often revisits for inspiration and encouragement in his writing journey.
When asked if he would rather die at the bottom of the ocean or in space, Armitage cheekily responded that he has no plans to die and would choose to live forever if given the chance. In a lighthearted moment, he mused about meeting Major Tom in space.
In a fun twist, Armitage joked about his biopic casting choices, with Cate Blanchett playing him and Emma Stone portraying his younger self. Finally, he revealed that out of loyalty, he would relate to a bird, particularly swifts, who spend most of their lives airborne, much like he feels he lives in his head most of the time.
