Pop star Justin Timberlake appeared virtually at a hearing in Sag Harbor, New York for his driving while intoxicated case, where the judge suspended his driver’s license and reprimanded his lawyer, Edward Burke Jr., for making “irresponsible” comments. Timberlake pleaded not guilty after being pulled over in the Hamptons area of Long Island and claimed he had only consumed one martini. The judge threatened to issue a gag order if the attorney continued to make comments that would negatively affect the case. Timberlake’s license was suspended in New York State for refusing a breathalyzer test during the incident, although it’s unclear how long the suspension will last.
Officer Michael Arkinson wrote in the criminal complaint that Timberlake exhibited signs of intoxication, including bloodshot and glassy eyes, a strong smell of alcohol on his breath, and poor performance on field sobriety tests. Timberlake struggled to walk heel-to-toe and stand on one foot without swaying. He declined to be tested for impairment, which can be used as evidence of guilt at trial and can result in a revocation of driving privileges.
Timberlake had been dining at the American Hotel in Sag Harbor before heading to a friend’s house when he was pulled over. The case is ongoing, with Timberlake’s attorney stating he looks forward to vigorously defending his client. The singer’s license suspension and legal proceedings will continue to develop as more information is revealed.
