Three children who were tragically killed in Southport have been named by Merseyside police as Bebe King, 6, Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, 9. The families of the girls have asked for privacy during this difficult time and have shared heartwarming tributes to their loved ones. The police have also appealed for information or footage of the disturbances that occurred after the incident.
The violence and disturbances in Southport were so serious that Merseyside police called in reinforcements from neighbouring forces, including officers from Wales, North Wales, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, and Cheshire. The police were struggling to bring the situation under control as demonstrators set fires, destroyed property, and threw bricks and missiles at officers.
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper condemned the attacks on police officers by what she described as “thugs on the streets” who have no respect for a grieving community. A man was arrested near a vigil for the victims for possession of a flick knife. The community, including religious leaders, expressed shock and horror at the violence that erupted after the tragic incident.
MP Patrick Hurley urged people to stay safe amid the unrest, and officials praised the efforts of officers who worked tirelessly to manage the situation. The focus remains on supporting the families of the victims and maintaining unity in the community during this difficult time.
