A global IT outage on Friday caused unexpected challenges for individuals needing government services, including those at the Georgia Department of Revenue office in Chamblee, as reported by Channel 2’s Audrey Washington. Many people attempting to file taxes or apply for licenses were unable to do so due to the computer system being down. Residents like Tina Collins, who needed a liquor license for her business, expressed frustration at the inconvenience. Even accountant Jim Cline was unable to drop off a tax credit due to the system being down.
Washington also noted problems accessing the Department of Revenue website and the MARTA website. While MARTA confirmed that rail and bus services were not affected by the outage, individuals like Collins had to wait for the issue to be resolved to obtain necessary paperwork.
In Fulton County, the Tax Commissioner’s office was also impacted by the IT outage, although most other services remained operational. It remains to be seen when the government agencies will resolve the issue and resume normal operations. The outage highlights the importance of reliable IT systems for the efficient functioning of government services and the potential disruptions that can occur when such systems fail.
