UK weather: Temperatures soar over 30C, marking hottest day of the year

The UK has experienced the highest temperatures of the year so far, with St James’s Park in central London reaching 31.9C. This comes as schools in England and Wales close for the summer, with temperatures expected to reach 25C to 31C on Friday as the hot spell peaks. Cooler weather is expected to move in over the weekend, bringing temperatures more typical for July.

Despite the recent heat, July temperatures have been below average, prompting the Met Office to remind people to protect themselves from sunburn by using sunscreen and seeking shade during the hottest times of the day. Heat health alerts have been issued across the Midlands, eastern, and southern England, advising caution for elderly people and those with underlying health conditions.

The previous highest temperature of the year was 30.5C in Surrey on June 26, but the recent heatwave has seen temperatures soar to new highs. With UV levels expected to be very high in the south, staying safe in the sun is essential for the health and well-being of all.

As the UK continues to experience hot weather, it’s important for everyone to take precautions to protect themselves from the heat and UV rays. With cooler weather on the horizon, it’s a reminder to enjoy the summer safely and responsibly.
