However, one proposed rule change that was not approved was granting each club two contract buyouts instead of just one. Despite this, MLS has stated that more changes are being considered, with a focus on enhancing the league’s competitiveness and global appeal leading up to the upcoming World Cup.
Todd Durbin, MLS Executive Vice President of Player Strategy and Relations, expressed that the new roster rules will enable clubs to sign top-tier players and emerging talents while providing flexibility to enhance overall roster quality.
