President Joe Biden stated in an interview with BET News that he would re-evaluate his decision to continue his campaign if doctors informed him of a medical condition. Despite facing calls to drop out after a lackluster debate performance, he has dismissed the idea of exiting the race. Biden appeared to struggle with remembering names during the interview, mistakenly referring to former President Herbert Hoover and others. He also discussed pushback he has received for appointing Black figures to prominent positions, emphasizing the importance of Black history in America. When discussing abortion rights, he seemed to fumble the name of Republican Senator JD Vance, who has opposed Democratic-led legislation on the issue. The White House did not immediately respond to these apparent stumbles. Biden has remained defiant against calls to end his re-election bid after concerns were raised about his mental capabilities and age following the June debate. He declined to commit to taking a cognitive or neurological test, stating that he gets a full neurological test every day through his duties as president. Despite admitting to a mistake in the debate, Biden initially intended to be a transitional candidate but decided to continue due to the divided state of the nation. He expressed reluctance to walk away from the opportunity to continue making a positive impact on the country.
